Chemainus and Logging

Here is one of the Chemainus murals. It depicts an original way of logging as a fore runner to machine logging. Teams of oxen are used rather than machinery. Both the lack of speed and the lack of petrol pollution make this type of logging, in an environmental way of speaking preferable to modern machine based logging and some environmentalist loggers still go this way. This type of logging, in as much as it is still being practiced, deals with smaller parcels and logging for private landowners.

About Joseph de Lange

Before retirement worked in art galleries, a photo studio, offices, and the trades. Don't travel much anymore but still photograph. For the past 5 years 95% of my photography is done with the phone. My prediction for big cameras: DSLRs and their beautiful lenses and even the smaller mirrorless cameras will be mostly a historical footnote in the not too distant future.
